Organic Certifications

Organic Certification

Organic certification is a process, audited on an annual basis, for producers of organic foods and other organic agricultural products. In general, any business directly involved in food production can be certified, including seed suppliers, farmers, food processors, retailers and restaurants. Requirements vary from country to country, and generally involve a set of standards for growing, storing, processing, packaging and shipping.  Synthetic chemical inputs are prohibited, such as fertilizer, pesticides, antibiotics, food additives, genetically modified organisms (GMOs), irradiation, and the use of sewage sludge.
